Company History
KTL Transport Inc. was founded in 1988 by Tanjit Kalhar, a first-generation truck driver. From modest beginnings at the family’s dinner table, each member played a role in the company’s growth, from dispatch, to accounting, and of course, truck driving. Born of entrepreneurial spirit, KTL Transport has grown steadily through hard work, a positive outlook and commitment to community.
Today our fleet includes 215 trucks and 1,100 container chassis. We are one of Canada’s largest for-hire transport fleets and we offer reliable, efficient and smart transport solutions.
With more than 30 years in business, these company milestones have paved the way to today:
1988
Moving from London, England to Vancouver, Tanjit Kalhar founded Kalhar Trucking Ltd. with a single 5-tonne pickup truck. His reputation for well-priced and stellar service in food and commercial goods transportation spread quickly across the Lower Mainland.
1991
Kalhar Trucking’s fleet grows to 25 trucks.
1995
Kalhar Trucking becomes KTL Transport Inc. and the fleet expands to 40 trucks.
1996
With unmatched reliability and speed of service, the business grows and diversifies, offering P&D trucks, Port of Vancouver drayage, and a full-service truck repair shop.
2000
KTL Transport’s fleet grows to 100 trucks and further diversifies to offer tractor trailers and flatbeds.
2004
The business relocates to Burnaby, increasing facility space from 80,000 square feet.
2010
The family business continues as Angie Kalhar becomes KTL Transport’s President. Angie remains one of few female leaders in the transportation industry.
2014
The fleet grows to 150 trucks.
2020
Always working to embrace innovative green technologies and practices to reduce environmental imprint, our fleet upgrade includes 31 environmentally conscious trucks.
2021
A technology transformation is underway. Software systems are being upgraded to align KTL Transport with Port of Vancouver operations and provide an edge over the competition.
